1970-74. Studied Fine Art and received a First Class Honours Degree from Newcastle University.

1974. Winner of a John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize, and joint-first prize at the Peter Stuyvesant Foundation

Group exhibitions at Spectrum North (Newcastle), the Peter Stuyvesant Foundation (Sunderland), New Contemporaries (London), the 'John Moores Contemporary Painting Exhibition 9' at the Walker Art Gallery (Liverpool), and 'Industrial Sponsors' at Grosvenor House Hotel (London).

1974-75. Winner of the Abbey Major Scholarship in Painting to study at the British School in Rome

Exhibited in the 'Mostra 75' group exhibition at the British School in Rome, and the 'Cleveland International Drawing Biennial' at the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (Middlesborough).

 

1975-76. Taught painting at Nottingham Trent Polytechnic and Reading University.

Studio holder at SPACE studios (London). 

1976. Received an Arts Council Award and the Northern Arts Fellowship.

One-man exhibition at Sunderland Arts Centre (Sunderland). 

Group shows at the Serpentine Gallery 'Summer Show 3' (London) and the 'John Moores Contemporary Painting Exhibition 10'  at the Walker Art Gallery (Liverpool).

 

1977-79. Taken on by the Rowan Art Gallery (London) where he had two one-man shows and two group shows of 'Gallery Artists'  before the gallery merged with the Annely Juda Gallery in 1983.

1976-80. Returned as 'Studio Demonstrator in Painting' on the Fine Art course at Newcastle University, and part-time lecturer at Newcastle Polytechnic University.

1978. One-man exhibition 'Richard Kidd: Recent Drawings & Paintings' at the Turnpike Gallery (Leigh).

Group show of 'Small Works'  at Newcastle Polytechnic Art Gallery (Newcastle).
